Maritsa East 2 TPP EAD, Kovachevo village is a base condensing thermal power plant built on 150ha in the East Maritsa Energy Complex at 60 km. from Stara Zagora. Its design began in 1960, and the first stage of construction in 1963. At present, Maritza East 2 TPP has 1450 MW of installed capacity and is the largest TPP on the territory of Bulgaria.
In connection with the rehabilitation of blocks I and IV at TPP “Maritza East 2” on 19.05.2006. a contract was signed between the plant and ProStream Group for the design, delivery, installation and commissioning of sixteen DN 1400mm PN 2.5 Bar and four DN 1200mm PN 2.5 Bar. Replacement of the fittings is carried out with the help of the plant and is not included in the rehabilitation performed by Toshiba. The valves are intended to serve as shutters of circulating pipelines which bring water through the CPL – 1 from the Ovcharitsa dam for cooling of the condensers of blocks 1 – 4 in TPP “Maritza East 2”. The existing disk prisons are Russian, obsolete and worn-out. For this reason, there are often failures and difficulties in insulating pipelines. Another major problem is the overburdening of the reinforcement and pipelines with river mussel, which was introduced into the dam during its burial. Advancement creates severe problems, requiring manual cleaning.
ProStream Group Ltd offers a modern and tested solution – Mammouth Butterfly Valves produced by KSB Amri – France. The valves have a special coating of the ebonite disc, which is applied by special technology. This coverage is based on KSB’s 20-year experience in using such valves in marine, riverine and sludge conditions, excluding overflows. Replacement of the seal, which is a nitrile-resistant oil coating, is easy. The valves are 100% solid in both directions according to all international standards, thus eliminating leaks in the pipeline or condenser repair. The valves themselves are much lighter and have a shorter building length than existing ones. This leads to easier installation and less pipeline and support loads.
The security of operation of the plant is of paramount importance. ProStream Group also achieves this by using a gearbox and electric drive from the leading European manufacturer AUMA RIESTER. Servicing of these drives is limited to replacing the lubricant over a period of 8 years. It is possible to add a variety of control and control options, so the fittings do not need service and monitoring.
